Valentina Guasto
Life Changing Diagnosis

Home Page

The Guasto / Torre family's world changed radically in January 2013, when 3 year old Valentina "Our Princess" was diagnosed with Cancer- Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). Since then, the family has experienced firsthand the power of hope and encouragement that our family, friends and co-workers have provided during such an emotionally trying time. Valentina started to feel ill about 3 months ago when her temperature would rise to over 103 degrees.  The fevers would last for about 10 days, then would break, she would be ok for 2 weeks; and then the cycle would start all over again.  After countless doctor visits, examinations, diagnostic medical test and an enormous amount of pain for Valentina;  only the bilateral bone marrow biopsy ultimately indicated that she had ALL.  Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia is a "liquid" tumor, or cancer of the blood, that starts in the bone marrow and spreads to the bloodstream.  As the most common pediatric cancer, ALL accounts for 35 percent of all cancers in children.

At the recommendation of a close family friend and with permission of both parents, I launched this website. As Valentina starts her long journey through treatment and God willing a cure, it was suggested this would be a wonderful way to keep family, friends, co-workers and members of the community updated on her progress.

Valentina began chemotherapy for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia 4 days after she was diagnosed. Additionally,  she had surgery to implant a medaport to assist in administering chemo, she also has chemo administer through a spinal tap.  Though she has endured numerous test,  bone marrow tests and countless pokes, through it all she remains a strong little girl. In fact, Valentina has won over all of the Doctors and Nurses on her floor, they are all amazed on how polite she is and what a tough little girl she is.  Through online journaling, I will log the ups and downs, struggles and on a regular basis express the gratitude of the family.  Together we can share words of prayer, love, hope and power; while we support Valentina and her parents through her fight against cancer.  Her prognosis is good and her next chemotherapy treatment is scheduled for today January 29, 2013.  We once again thank everyone for the continued love, support & prayers you give to Valentina & her family. May God Bless you all.
